Local artists Leah Mariani and Olga Dziemidowiczi join forces to create collaborative artworks that combine landscapes with the female form.

Olga Dziemidowiczi is a Melbourne-based artist known for her expressive landscapes, among other subjects. We studied together at VCA, and I’ve always been drawn to her bright, atmospheric paintings.
Recently, we joined forces to merge her landscape expertise with my love of figurative painting. I incorporated two female figures into two of her existing landscape pieces, placing them within the scene as observers of the world around them.
Olga’s bold, expressive brushstrokes contrast sharply with the finely rendered figures, who stand solid and slightly awkward amidst the swirling, vibrant scenery. Their dark, defined silhouettes create a striking juxtaposition against the movement and energy of the landscape.

In each painting, a woman stands alone surveying the landscape in front of her. The figures' clothing and stances subtly reflect the colors and mood of their surroundings. For someone who typically works with flat backgrounds, this collaboration offered a refreshing challenge—considering a more expansive space and the way it interacts with my figures added a new dimension to my practice.
This is my first ever artist collaboration and I hope it is the first of many. I love the idea of artists supporting artists, especially women artists working together.
These two canvases can be displayed as a diptych or viewed individually. These paintings are available for sale on Bluethumb. To view more of Olga's work go to: https://www.olgadziemidowicz.com.au/
